Far away from the Madding Crowd

On Wednesday, the 2nd of February, 2022, Ajay and I took wedding vows and I moved in along with him to his home in Mangalagiri near Teekoy in the lush green district of Kottayam, Kerala. The place is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The village is known for its natural beauty, gorgeous plantations,
and serene atmosphere.

I was truly amazed by all it had to offer although anxiety popped up deep within me.

Having been a component of hustle and bustle of urban dwelling since my childhood, I felt the place I’m going to live in is a replica of peace and joy. Yes, it’s a haven for nature lovers.

I woke up the next day morning listening to the chirping of birds.

Ajay and I decided to stroll along the winding streets of the village for some time.

We were greeted by the rustling of leaves underfoot and the scent of wild flowers.

I could even feel the cool breeze on my skin and the warmth of sun; and it made me more invigorated.

As we wandered through the locality, we saw locals going about their daily lives. Men tapping rubber, women taking care of the household responsibilities and children playing in the fields. They wake up early in the morning, grow their own crops, rear their own animals and make their own food. Of course, they lead a self sustaining life that is in perfect harmony with nature and are rooted in their traditions.

Also, they seemed to be warm and welcoming; and happy to share their way of life with visitors. They got goose bumps when they recalled the mythological significance behind their hamlet.

I did feel the beauty of nature is woven into every aspect of life here.

Marmala Waterfalls in Mangalagiri is another surprise awaiting for the visitors. We walked along the dirt path and rocky terrain to reach over Marmala.

Well, the efforts were worthy!

A spectacular- pristine water show was found to be in store for us!

There is hardly 12 kilometers from Mangalagiri to Vagamon (known for its picturesque views). The village Mangalagiri reinstates that the small villages in and around Vagamon are a must visit; and most apparently, there is more to Vagamon than the popular image that we get to see on travel brochures.

If you are looking for an offbeat destination for your next trip, I highly recommend Mangalagiri- it's a place you won’t forget anytime soon. Whether you’re a nature lover, a birdwatcher, or just looking for a peaceful escape, Mangalagiri is a must visit place that will captivate you with its natural charm and beauty.

P.S: I hear the sound of crickets chirping and lapping of water around me as I pen this down..!!
